American doughnut company Krispy Kreme has signed an agreement with Citymax Hotels to open 80 franchise stores in India over the next five years. Under the deal, Citymax, a part of the Dubai-based retail giant Landmark Group, will develop new Krispy Kreme units across the south and west regions of India.

Citymax Hotels president Vishal Sawhney said that the company's strong existing footprint and understanding of consumer dining habits, combined with the strengths of the Krispy Kreme brand, will popularize Krispy Kreme doughnuts among Indian customers.

"The addition of Krispy Kreme to our current portfolio of brands allows us to give customers even more choice and variety," Sawhney added.

Founded in 1937, Krispy Kreme currently operates more than 690 stores in 21 countries. Recently, the company inked another development deal with Bedrock Food Company to open 35 outlets in north India.
