Walmart Canada is opening 47 hiring centres across the country to support its growth plans and recruit new talent. The retailer plans to complete at least 73 projects by January 2013, including building new stores and expanding, remodeling or relocating existing stores. Most of the 39 former Zellers stores, whose leasehold rights the firm has purchased in June 2011, are also included in the projects. The stores will reopen as Walmart stores in this fiscal year.Walmart Canada senior vice president, people, Bob Hakeem said that the company is adding more than 4,000 new associates to its team. In addition, the retail chain's pharmacies are also in the midst of a significant hiring phase. Walmart Canada senior vice president, health and wellness, Eric Muir said, "We have already hired many pharmacy associates that previously worked for Zellers and are looking to fill additional positions." The company has already hired 900 new associates this year from sales associates to managers, and plans to staff an additional 3,100 new positions. Walmart Canada, which operates a chain of discount stores and supercentres, is expected to employ 94,000 associates by 31 January 2013. The firm has more than 330 outlets in Canada.
