Toronto-based gourmet burger chain Big Smoke plans to unveil its first New York outlet in 2012.

The chain was earlier called Craft Burger and retails burgers with Canadian cheddar and fresh avocado.

Big Smoke president and founder Mustafa Yusuf noted that the chain is looking to expand further in US by opening in Chicago, Buffalo and Florida.

"We offer something other places don't. We're going to be using Canadian ingredients as much as possible, and we also have poutine," Yusuf said.

Yusuf has also signed franchise deal with New York-area restaurant operator Anthony Fauci for the rights to open Big Smoke outlets in New York and Chicago.

Fauci also operates Italian mozzarella bar Obika in Manhattan.

The chain is looking to expand with around 15-20 outlets in New York and Chicago.
